Private doctors in Spain offer faster appointments than the public system, specialised care and same-day diagnostics. Every practising doctor must be registered with their provincial Colegio Oficial de Médicos (COM).

Prolio verifies COM registration and, where available, the clinic's health authorisation. Private healthcare complements the public system; it doesn't replace it, but it's invaluable when waiting lists are long.

How do I verify a doctor is properly registered?

Search their name or colegiado number on the provincial Colegio Oficial de Médicos website. If they're not listed, they're not practising legally — report it.

How much is a private consultation without insurance?

General practitioner: €60-€90. Specialists (dermatology, gynaecology, orthopaedics…): €100-€180. Tests like ultrasounds and bloodwork are billed separately.

With or without private health insurance?

With insurance you pay a monthly premium (€40-€120) and access an approved doctor network with little or no copay. Without it, you pay per visit. If you expect more than 4-5 private consultations a year, insurance usually pays off.
